The Energy Foundation promotes policies that reduce vehicle global warming pollution and oil consumption. New technologies and fuels have the potential to slash transportation oil use, air pollution, and global warming pollution.
Partly due to past Transportation Program grants, advanced vehicle technologies including better engines and transmissions and the increasingly popular hybrid electric vehiclesare making their way onto American roads. We continue to support these developments, along with the growth of nonpetroleum transportation fuels like electricity, hydrogen, and sustainable biofuels as long-term solutions.
Policy leadership is essential for commercializing this new suite of clean transportation technologies, building vibrant new markets, reducing oil imports, and reining in global warming pollution. The Transportation Program makes grants to promote innovative federal and state policies that reduce global warming pollution from vehicles, encourage low-carbon fuels, and discourage high-carbon fuels. We focus on performance-based standards and incentives that guide markets toward cleaner solutions.
