Energy Foundation today announced that former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy has joined their Board of Directors.
“Gina is a tireless advocate for American workers across the country, and her experience and insight will be invaluable as we work to transition to an economy built on American innovation and clean energy,” said Eric Heitz, CEO and Co-Founder of Energy Foundation. “Despite the lack of national leadership, we’re seeing states across the country embrace the many benefits of clean energy solutions that should be available to everyone. We’re so proud that Gina is joining us at this critical moment.”

Gina McCarthy is Professor of the Practice of Public Health in the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment. In this capacity, Gina leads the development of the school’s strategy to turn climate and health science into actions that promote a more sustainable and just world. She is affiliated with the Kennedy School of Government where she engages climate science leaders across the university and beyond. Gina is also an operating advisor at a private equity firm focused on sustainability and wellness, called Pegasus Capital Advisors.
Gina served as EPA Administrator from July 2013 to January 2017. She had previously served as Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation, upon appointment by President Obama in 2009.
Prior to her EPA appointment, Gina served as the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. During her career, which spans over 30 years, she has worked at both the state and local levels on critical environmental issues and helped coordinate policies on economic growth, energy, transportation, and the environment.
Gina received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a joint Master of Science in Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy from Tufts University.
